Connecting frequent flyers with safety in mind

summary
FlySocial was a social media app concept from a client that mixed elements LinkedIn, Facebook and Yelp to connect frequent flyers in-flight or from their networks to share their travels, favorite places and recommended pit stops along the way.
We took the task, sampled some UX flows based on the client's feedback and wishlist and developed sketches and a medium-fidelity prototype that the client could use to pitch to airlines for a white-label opportunity.
challenge
Our biggest challenge was making a prototype that was low enough of a fidelity that we could easily white-label for each airline as the client needed a pitchdeck, but high enough fidelity for the concept to get across. A lot of our team came from the pixel-perfect mindset, and I had to lead the team in executing what was needed for the project aligned with the project timelines and strategy.
What was top of mind for me was traveller security and safety. Nobody wants a random suspicious person figuring out their flight patterns and routines. Therefore, we ensured that the users who connected both knew each other and gave consent to sharing personally-identifiable information with people in their friends list.
Personally, another challenge presented itself with a difficult client. Their design style was quite particular and niche, but I was able to find some middle ground with them. As a result, we created a medium-fidelity design that could be further refined into an elegant final product.
solution
We did some user flows to get an understanding of the client’s need, and upon brainstorming/sequester we confirmed the approach and got to work. I took my sketches from the sequester and started coming up with a medium-fidelity based on design samples the client provided. We didn’t exactly match in taste, but we figured out a good baseline to quickly white-label with airlines’ branding.
result
The client was able to take the prototype and use it to get seed funding for their company from a major airline.
From what I’ve heard, the intellectual property was purchased by said airline for potential use in their own app(s).
